The Paintings of Lizzie Jones

ME, ME, ME!

I was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Halifax. I attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a focus on painting. Feeling like I wasn't getting anywhere, I left NSCAD and worked as a cook for several years.

I decided that working a trade was the way to go. In 2005 I moved to PEI and completed the Culinary Arts program at Holland College. I am currently cooking in a fine dining restaurant in Halifax. When I'm not in the kitchen, I'm painting.

I prefer to paint on a textured background, and I use various types of paper to create different effects. Materials I have used in paintings include newspaper, book pages, corrugated cardboard, string, glass, tissue paper, lace, and gold leaf.

Recurring Themes

Whimsical representations of animals, and anxiety-fueled portraits of women - depending on the kind of day I'm having.

I use painting to explore (and sometimes combat) my feelings of alienation, self-consciousness, insignificance and nihilism.

I hope you enjoy my work. Thanks for stopping by.
